Sugar Skulls from Spooky Empire's Mayhem in Orlando
Spooky Empire holds two horror conventions each year in Orlando, FL. October and May is when the lover's of thrillers and slasher movies come out to play. Usually they have a zombie walk each year and several of the artist's in my guild, Orlando People Painters, create undead all morning for their kickoff party. But this year they changed it up a bit by having a Day of the Dead Party and we brought in our artists to paint Sugar Skulls all morning. I was impressed by the amount of people that came in full dress and had costumes for us to match their makeup with. It was very fun to create so many different looks.
This year they also set up a makeup artist booth and had several special effects and makeup artists set up and were available for creating looks to match their costumes, or just for fun, all weekend. Nix Herrera, JD Ellis, Chris Davis, Nick Wolfe, Lauren-Rae Chismar, Mick "Dr. Skull" Velasquez, Orlando Pagan, Felisa Massey and myself were just a few of the artists representing Orlando's makeup industry at the booth.
